Make Way for…My Special Aflac Ducks
On August 9, Sunrise teamed up with Aflac to distribute over 150 My Special Aflac Ducks to Sunrise Day Camp–Long Island camp families. This delivery was the first of several as Aflac works to send Ducks to all Sunrise Association Day Camp families across the U.S.
My Special Aflac Duck is an award-winning social robot developed by Aflac to help provide comfort, joy, and distraction to children with cancer and sickle cell.
“As Sunrise Association looks toward expanding across the United States, I’m grateful to our friends at Aflac for the support and friendship they have shown to our families,” said Beth Fetner, Sunrise Association Chief Development Officer. “Seeing our children on Long Island so excited to receive their My Special Aflac Ducks brought happiness to all of us!”
As part of their national sponsorship of Sunrise, Aflac will also send ten children to camp in the coming year through a generous $60,000 contribution.
Thank you so much, Aflac, for supporting Sunrise in our mission to bring the joys of childhood back to children with cancer and their siblings.

Wheels Up! Season 5 Takes Off
We are so pleased to announce Wheels Up! Season 5 has begun. Wheels Up! is an exciting virtual travel program that takes children around the world on a very special weekly adventure. From “Ice Cream Around the World” and “Roller Coasters Around the World,” to exploring countries like New Zealand, Morocco, and more, kids in hospitals or at home can board our flight and join us as we travel around the globe. In addition to their travel adventure, kids can participate in a weekly crafts segment and play along in our fun and fast quiz game, which ties into the weekly theme. Finally, the hospitals can participate in our special Passport Kit program where patients can follow along with their own Sunrise Association passports, colored pencils, stamps, and stickers. What fun!
Wheels Up! is now airing in 67 hospitals and medical facilities across the USA. We are also working with fantastic organizations such as the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which is airing our show in their hospital recording studios, and Give Kids the World Village, a storybook resort for chronically ill children in Florida.
Thank you to the Dorothy and Irving Ross Sunrise Studios and American Airlines for bringing all of this excitement and entertainment from the Sunrise Association to children all around the world!

A Horizon Homerun for Horizon Day Camp-Baltimore
On July 25, Baltimore Orioles Manager Brandon Hyde and the O’s Bird visited Horizon Day Camp–Baltimore to help kick off the camp’s Spirit Week/Camp War—a week-long friendly competition among campers who were divided into Orange and Purple teams in honor of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens respectively.
Horizon Day Camp’s Executive Director Mark McElrath said, “It was a special day to have Brandon Hyde and his family help kick off the festivities. Many of our campers will now forever be Orioles fans, but more so Brandon’s visit was a testament to how special Horizon Day Camp is for him.” Despite a visit from the Ravens’ mascot Poe later in the week, the Orange team was declared victorious but it was a win for all involved!
