Rockin’ Desserts and The River

Rock the River founding co-chairs Hillary & Scott Assael and Elissa & Greg Weinhoff have been involved in Sunrise Day Camp-Pearl River since 2013. Together they have introduced hundreds of new supporters to Sunrise, helped to raise over $4M through the Rock the River benefit concert and ensured the growth of Pearl River to 324 happy campers last summer.

In 2017, when they opened SugarHi, a bakery and sweet shop in Armonk, NY, they immediately opened those doors to Sunrise. Each month they host our committee meetings serving delicious treats, participate in our annual holiday toy drive, donate birthday parties to our auctions, and sponsor our events.   We are truly grateful for our continued partnership with Elissa, Greg, Hillary, Scott and SugarHi

Stop by the store to say hello and sample their incredible homemade desserts and cakes!

Horizon Day Camp Partners with Orangetheory

During DecemberOrangetheory Columbia chose Horizon Day Camp as its charitable beneficiary for its holiday toy drive and fundraising campaign. Orangetheory collected brand new toys, games, and activities for the Horizon on Wheels programs in Baltimore and Washington D.C. – overflowing 5 full bins with toys and gift cards!

Culminating the campaign, Orangetheory Columbia hosted a charity fundraiser class benefitting Horizon Day Camp on New Year’s Eve, raising more than $860 and selling out the studio – the most successful fundraising event Orangetheory Columbia has ever hosted for a charity!

Horizon Day Camp is excited to continue this great partnership with Orangetheory for HorizonWALKS 2020!

Meet Austin – Our 2020 SunriseWALKS National Ambassador

Austin was diagnosed with cancer in January 2019 at the age of four. Saving his life immediately became the number one priority for his family – vacations were cancelled, and Austin was pulled from activities and even school.

In the beginning of his treatment, Austin just wanted to be alone. The Sunrise on Wheels volunteers knew they could help Austin, so they visited him daily and became the highlight of his day. Austin’s parents were thrilled and relieved to learn that Sunrise Day Camp could give their son a FUN summer and meet Austin’s medical and emotional needs.

After his first day of camp, Austin came home joyfully singing the camp song. Cancer took so much away from Austin, but Sunrise gave him the opportunity to meet kids who understood exactly what he was experiencing. Austin loved camp so much, he eagerly agreed to be the SunriseWALKS National Ambassador and share his story.

Sunrise on Wheels Comes to CHOP

The Sunrise Day Camps Association is thrilled to be opening our 9th Sunrise Day Camp in July 2020 in the Cherry Hill/Voorhees, NJ area. The new camp – to be known as Sunrise Day Camp – Southern NJ/Greater Philadelphia – will also include children with cancer and their siblings living in the Delaware area.

As part of our rollout, we are proud to have secured a formal affiliation with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where  two new Sunrise on Wheels programs  will be opening this month (one per week at both their Philadelphia and Voorhees clinics).  The team has hosted open houses for the staff at each CHOP location. Additional affiliations with area hospitals are in progress.
