Dante’s Triumph: Overcoming Challenges and Giving Back at Sunrise Day Camp

Dante at Sunrise Day Camp - Pearl River

Dante was a typical active pre-teen: always happy, full of energy, and content with his life. In September 2018, when he was almost 11 years old, Dante fell while running. He was rushed to the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, where he was diagnosed with sarcoma of the right femur. Despite enduring surgeries, chemo, and amputation, Dante remained strong and positive.

Dante joined Sunrise Day Camp-Pearl River in summer 2019. One of Dante’s highlights of his first summer was his adventure on the climbing wall that is designed for older campers. His new prosthetic leg was bothersome and the climb difficult, but he kept going. Everyone clapped and cheered as he made his way to the top.

Sunrise gave Dante the confidence and energy he needed to succeed.

Dante’s family is grateful to Sunrise for giving him so many amazing opportunities. The next amazing opportunity is this summer, when Dante returns to Sunrise Day Camp-Pearl River to become a CIT (counselor in training)!
